We are truly proud of our Year 6 Leadership Conference. It has been designed to inspire and empower Year Six students to exercise leadership in their own lives. Each year the Year Six students of Our Lady's school plan, organise and run a leadership Conference for Year Six students from schools in the Western Region. Last year nine schools participated in this day.
Over the years the Year Six students have organised guest speakers from many diverse areas of life: sports, police, entertainment, writers, performers and chefs. One thing they all had in common was that they had inspirational life stories which helped to motivate students to strive to achieve their dreams.
Students from schools across the western region hear effective leaders demonstrate and talk about the personal qualities and skills which helped them to achieve their goals.
The logo and motto for last year's conference was designed by Vivian and Kate, ‘Let your leadership blossom’. We believe everyone can be a leader and the message we would like you all to take from our motto is that it is important to believe in yourself, set yourself goals and allow yourself to blossom in many ways.
Pope Francis’ message to the Pilgrims during World Youth Day in 2013 also reflects this: “Dear Young People, do not bury your talents, the gifts that God has given you! Do not be afraid to dream of great things!” Pope Francis has a very special bond with young people all around the world, and we hope that his words, together with our motto, will inspire you to be all that you can be.
We hope that all Year Six students who attend the Leadership Conference leave with a renewed sense of the many gifts God has given you and that they to can use these gifts to benefit their own lives and the lives of the people in their community.
