Special Message 2020

As you may be aware, the situation regarding the emerging outbreak of Novel Coronavirus has continued to evolve. Our Lady’s school has been closely monitoring developments in relation to the spread of the Novel Coronavirus. Today, I am writing to inform you about our response to the situation.

Our Lady’s school will be implementing all Catholic Education Melbourne recommendations. These are based on the recommendations made by the Commonwealth Chief Medical Officer and Victoria’s Chief Health Officer. As of today, it was recommended to take a a stronger precautionary approach to managing coronavirus for travellers returned from Hubei Province in China.

This recommendation means that any parent/guardian/carer of a student who attends Our Lady’s school should ensure that any returning student is isolated at home and should not attend school for 14 days:

  • Following exposure to any confirmed novel coronavirus case; or
  • After leaving Hubei Province.

I request that if you have travelled back from Wuhan or any other area of Hubei Province you must observe the 14-day isolation period and stay home from school. Please immediately contact your child’s teacher or myself either by phone 9312 2230 or by email principal@olsunshine.catholic.edu.au

If you have not travelled to China during the holidays you should feel confident to send your child to school.

Staff at Our Lady’s have been briefed to inform students of the importance of practising good hand and respiratory hygiene such as washing your hands regularly with soap and water, covering the nose and mouth with an elbow when coughing and sneezing into a tissue. These are hygiene habits that you can also reinforce at home.

Additional information can be found on the Australian Government Department of Health website: https://www.health.gov.au/health-topics/novel-coronavirus.This site also provides regular updates on the situation.

We will continue to monitor the developments and follow advice from the Australian Government Department of Health in support of the health and wellbeing of our students and staff.
